Historical Sites

Jordan is a treasure trove of extraordinary sights. From Roman amphitheatres and forums—among the finest outside Rome—to Crusader castles, the country is steeped in history. The crown jewel is Petra, the “Rose City,” carved into sandstone cliffs and recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, requiring at least a full day to explore. Equally striking is Qasr Kharana, a desert castle set against a dramatic, otherworldly landscape.

Landscapes

Jordan’s landscapes are strikingly diverse, ranging from rugged mountain ranges and vast deserts to fertile valleys and the surreal Dead Sea—the lowest point on Earth and the world’s deepest salt lake. The sandstone cliffs glow beautifully at sunrise and sunset, while the Dana Nature Reserve shelters many of the country’s endemic species. Panoramic vistas from the Mountain Heights Plateau are truly unforgettable.

Cuisine

The food of Jordan is some of the best in the region, combining traditional Levantine ingredients and methods. Dishes burst with flavour from a mix of herbs and spices – all of which is created to share. The country is one of the world’s largest producers of olive oil, and za’atar, a popular blend if spices, is made from sumac that grows wild. Try Mansaf – the national dish made with lamb, yoghurt, paprika and cumin, and then try to resist a tempting baklava.

Diving

Jordan’s small stretch of coastline along the Red Sea boasts some of the region’s finest diving. Pristine coral gardens, vibrant reefs, and intriguing wrecks teem with marine life, all set in crystal-clear waters. Aqaba is home to excellent dive centres, catering both to beginners taking their first plunge and seasoned divers exploring the top sites. The nearby marine park is also perfect for unforgettable snorkelling adventures.
